Learning to Ride

You probably remember your first bike as something special. It might have been a birthday or Christmas present but the excitement was there regardless. It gave you your first sense of freedom, speed and danger. It probably took you to new places so that you could practise riding your bike.

At Hornsby Cycles we like to make sure that your child can discover the same sense of freedom as you did while also helping them grow and understand the risks in safe and proper use of a bike. At the same time they master the challenges of starting, steering, balancing and stopping they will also be learning about avoiding obstacles, that crashing can hurt and that sometimes it is better to be safe than sorry.

Making sure that your child is on the right sized bike, with quality fittings that are sized for them is a key part of ensuring that their first experiences are positive. Encouraging children to master all the challenges of cycling too quickly can make it more difficult for them to get the basics of steering, balance and obstacle awareness.

Remember that teaching the little ones can be challenging but the rewards are also great. Check out the euphoria of this young chap on youtube.
